Challenges to Catholic and Christian Values
The current challenge is the Human Embryology and Fertilisation Bill, which will permit hybrid embryos using animal and human genetic material. Children conceived by IVF will not know details of their natural father. It is likely that during the various stages of the BIll those in favour of greater liberalisation of the Abortion Laws will take the opportunity to make amendments whilst most public opinion is for greater accountability and a reduction in the 24 week limit.
Those who value life are asked to bring their concerns to the notice of their own Members of Parliament. The recent votes in the House of Commons were a disappointment but NOT a reason to retreat from a sustained campaign to protect the innocent.
During the next few weeks the Report stage of the Bill proceeds. Now is the time to maintain a momentum. Our local MPs, Mr Ian Duncan Smith and Eleanor Laing support the pro-life stance whereas Mr Harry Cohen does not. We thank those who have listened and ask the others to reconsider the value system of the society they seem intent on creating.
