The commitment is once every 6 weeks welcoming people, handing out service sheets, conducting the Offertory collection, etc. A really good way of meeting new people and getting the children involved in the mass. About 50 came last Sunday to show their interest in our parish. It was a good meeting. First it affirmed a great deal of achievement of the past year. Schools finally have finished. I hope everyone will now have a rest and a true holiday. The newsletter – by common request! – will continue to appear each weekend. We have piloted two successful Monday teas after 10am Mass with parishioners and Friars enjoying the atmosphere and a relaxing catch up. We will look to start this in September on the first Monday of each month and see how it develops. We would like to take this forward on a more regular basis from September onwards and are looking for volunteers to join in on a rota basis. Two Sundays past the congregation at 11.30am met an unexpected conclusion to the mass. Invited to remain in their seats, all were given explicit instructions on how they should empty the church in case of an emergency. The alarm bells should have then sounded, but did not.
