CAFOD Family Fast Day: Friday 4th October

On Family Fast Day, CAFOD invites us to share in the abundance that God has given us. We are asked to fast, pray and give to help people like Fabiano, who lives in a remote village in Uganda. The area is so hot and dry, people used to struggle to get enough clean water to survive. On Family Fast Day, CAFOD invites us to eat simply – perhaps having a bowl of soup instead of a meal – and give the money we save to help people like Fabiano. Please collect your Fast Day envelope & prayer card from the church this weekend and give what you can.

Music at 10am Sunday Mass

That done you are all invited to modest refreshments in The Becket. For at 8pm…. Fr Dominic Howarth has agreed to come and help us with our project to provide good activities for our young people. Fr Dominic is the director of Abbotswick Youth Centre. The Centre hums with energy and brilliant ideas and youthful enthusiasm. Our three parishes building a partnership already have some preliminary ideas of what we can do with our combined resources. We anticipate there will be a good attendance from St Anne Line and Our Lady of Lourdes Wanstead. So

If you have still to make your sponsorship return please see David Underwood after mass or drop it in to the parish office in an envelope marked “bccs Sponsored Walk 2019”.

Volunteers are sought to assist on a rota basis with the after mass teas on a Sunday morning. Please contact Sheila on 020 85804 3839.

Launch of the Parish Fund-raising campaign

On Monday 14th October you are all cordially invited to a social in the Becket. It is well-known that when a parish has to raise money the need generates much good social engagement. So that will be the main topic of the evening. We will tell where we are in our process of renewing our ageing buildings and some future planning. And we hope you will come brimming with ideas of how we will start paying the bills. This is a major event for St Thomas. Do keep the evening free.

BEAVERS

Should you wish your child to join Beavers, you need to ensure that you have put their name on the waiting list. Beavers start at 6 years old and then move on to Cubs when they are 8. They meet on a Monday night for 1 hour from 6.15pm at the Scout hut alongside the Becket Centre. An application form can be obtained by emailing the beaver leader paulineelkin616@gmail.com

Trinity School applications

In response to the COVID-19 situation and due to extraordinary circumstances this year, the school have commissioned a virtual tour of Trinity Catholic High School, which can be found on our website (https://fc.tchs.uk.net/). The school has taken this decision, not to expose our prospective parents to any unnecessary risks. The school realises that you, as parents, may be disappointed with regard to this but please be aware that we only have the interests of the parents, and our school community, at the forefront of this decision, and would not wish to disadvantage any parents who may not feel able to attend. The website contains a lot of information regarding Key Stage 3, 4 and 5 teachin
