Summer Fete Team—Thank you

A big thank you from the Summer Fete team for all coming, enjoying and making the most of the sunshine last Saturday. To see both adults and children having fun and making wonderful memories was a joy to behold.

Of course such an event wouldn’t have happened without lots of support. From the creation of banners, to printing of programmes, to ideas for stalls and lists upon lists of courageous volunteers, to the quiet but effective support from the parish council, parish office & Fr Quentin and my tree/grass cutters and plant growers and the great communications team, we’d have been lost without you. Not to mention all who donated bottles, prizes, gifts & vouchers, thank you.

However, a special mention has to made for the children who took up the task of running stalls with such enthusiasm, brilliance & professionalism. They sold everything from slime to unicorns, cupcakes and badges, sweets and treats, spinning wheels and shoving pennies, squirting water guns to filling ping pong jars full of chocolate bunnies and hour after hour saving penalties shootouts. A huge well done to you all.

Also to our performers, Claddagh Irish Dancers, St Antony Class Dancers, the Year 3/4 Choir, Dance 21 and our band the UnOriginals. You were all brilliant.

We hope to work with the parish council going forward to use all monies raised effectively so watch this space with more news on that and the day did highlight to us that we need to double our volunteer list so if you want to get involved and are happy to spend an hour or two helping out please do let us know, our list of hands on deck for 2019 has already begun.

A massive “THANKYOU” to the main organisers of the Garden Fete, Patricia Gray and Aińe Wood for such a spectacular event last weekend. They took up the gauntlet of trying to revitalise and re-energise the traditional Fete to create a memorable and successful afternoon for all. There was much hard work involved (a special thank you to the 6 members of the Haughian Family who came to help out, some travelled from Ireland to do so!) and the result was a wonderfully family centred event, which appealed to everyone from animal lovers to cake enthusiasts.

With the success of the Parish International Evening in November, the Open Air Mass in June and now the Fete, there is a positive change emerging within The Parish. The focus on these events is not just fund-raising; it is on strengthening and building the Parish community.

The aim is to enjoy being together, spending time with one another socially and mixing cultures so that we can learn from each other and enrich all our lives as a result.
