What's next for the Church

On Tuesday we heard the announcement that, from the 4th July, places of worship will be able to reopen for prayer and services. We welcome this news with great joy. The recent reopening of our churches for individual private prayer was an important milestone on our journey towards resuming communal worship. We have put in place all the measures needed to ensure the risks of virus transmission are minimised. This includes effective hand sanitisation, social distancing, and cleaning.
We will looking over the next days as to how we can safely and successfully move to our opening to include services.
Next steps – we need your help
To move to open St Thomas’s for services is no small challenge. There are many who make our Church operate effectively and that includes, Ushers, Cleaners, Readers and many more. In these Covid 19 times the role that the laity play is even more important in ensuring the safety of Friars and our Parishioners.
Therefore, we are seeking volunteers to be Stewards for services, we estimate that we need a minimum of 4 stewards at any service we hold. The role of the Steward will be to ensure that only the number permitted in the Church is restricted; they will guide people’s movement through the service and assist people to leave the church safely. After the service, they will then clean and sanitise the church for the next users.
