Prisons week

Today begins a week of prayer for the most unpopular of our society. Some are bad; more are casualties of our current world; very many neglected or maltreated from birth. Think what covid has been like for them. Many banged up for 23 hours every day, often two or three sharing a cell. That in itself has caused or intensified a slender grasp on reality. We must pray for them: for those who care with reduced staffing levels, often the butt of rage and violence; for the families having to cope without a father or mother, and in consequence no bread-winner. Next Sunday Emma Mortoo – of our parish – will talk to us briefly after each mass. Prisons can be horrible places. But there are good people bringing good into and out of them. We need to know for they exist for our protection.
