Society of St Vincent de Paul

The aim of the Society of St Vincent de Paul is to provide a means whereby members can practice Christianity by loving their neighbours in the person of the needy.

The SVP Conference in this parish visits the lonely in their own home or in residential homes, the sick in hospital, those struggling on low incomes perhaps with young children, or those with personal problems, debt, drugs, alcoholism, or those in any of the many situations that make life difficult.

The Society was founded in the Sorbonne by French students in 1833. Our parish SVP Conference has been working here in Woodford for over 100 years,. We are ecumenical, worldwide (active in 130 countries) and our parish Conference regularly helps Conferences in India with whom we are twinned, as well as supporting famine relief efforts in Sudan.

There are currently about ten of us in the conference. New members are needed, and welcomed. The support of the parish community is very much appreciated, and essential to our works.
