From Fr Quentin: Meeting in Preparation for re-starting Children’s Liturgy

Those who attend the 10 a.m. Mass on Sundays will remember a child coming up and taking a book from the priest and then going out for a children’s liturgy. Lock down put an end to that arrangement but parents have been asking that it be revived. On Monday we had a meeting with Anne Farmer, who had arranged the sessions in the past, and with volunteers who want to make it happen again. There was enthusiasm among the volunteers and a little nervousness in wanting to get it started. The point was made strongly that the children would concentrate on the Gospel of the Sunday at their level of understanding. It was not a child minding service but education in the faith. We had about ten volunteers but we need more so that each volunteer is on duty only once a month. If you could join the volunteers, then tell the parish office. Unfortunately, DBS checks are not portable from one organisation to another so Nicky Crowther is getting on with the checks. There will be two groups; one for Reception and Year 1 children and the other for Year 2 children. We hope to start with the Year 2 group in Advent and the other group in the New Year. We hope this will help parents to carry out their responsibility for educating children in faith.
